CCCI empowers next generation of experts in the seafood processing sector through DET program

After a successful implementation of the first batch of Dual Education and Training (DET) last year, another 25 learners together with their parents/guardians have set to embark the DET for seafood processing as they attended the orientation at Audio Visual Room of the Salazar College of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) on July 25 (Thursday).

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) together with AFOS Foundation, Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute Technology (SCSIT), Siargao Bounty Seafood Corp., HJR International Corp, and Phil-Union Frozen Foods Inc is making significant strides in developing a skilled workforce through the DET program that aims to address the increasing job mismatch in the country and fills the gap by providing sustainable employment that meets the requirements of the industry and employees' lack of skills.

The program will run six months starting August this year. Training will occur over five weeks with 240 hours in a classroom setting, while training in industry will span 18 weeks with 912 hours.

This innovative approach combines classroom learning with hands-on experience in actual work environments, equipping individuals with the competencies demanded by the industry. Learners will undergo comprehensive training to become proficient Seafood Production Workers. This holistic approach equips them with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, making them highly employable after graduation.

“The DET program is a testament to CCCI’s commitment through ACAS to fostering a skilled and competitive workforce. By collaborating with industry partners and academe, we ensure that our graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies to meet the demands of the seafood industry.” said Bernard Sia, Vice President for Business Development.

As the seafood industry continues to grow, CCCI’s ACAS remains steadfast in designing and developing job profiles which will contribute to creating a more conducive ecosystem for businesses to grow, thrive and prosper.
