The CDU-CN has been having a stellar year in 2022 when six of its graduates landed in the top 10 of the Philippine Nurse Licensure Examinations (NLE).

CDU also ranked among the number 1 Top Performing Schools nationwide after it recorded a 100 percent passing rate in the licensure examination for nurses given last November 2022. The national passing rate is 74.40%.

During the November 2022 NLE, two of the University’s graduates, Rochine Claire Vaño Cagasan and Maraiah Cabahug Santos, ranked fifth with a rating of 89.20%. Two others, John Lloyd Dayanan Genelsa and Karylle Nicole Veloso Teo placed 8th, getting a rating of 88.60% while Catherine Joy Solano Chua and Benz Jim Timbal Gragasin landed in 10th place with a rating of 88.20%.

CDU College of Nursing achieved a perfect passing rate after all its 174 graduates who took the licensure examination successfully hurdled the November 2022 examination given by the Professional Regulation Commission, said Dr. Rommel P. Merioles, Dean of the CDU College of Nursing.

Dean Merioles noted that at least for the past four years, the College had a passing percentage of between 95 to 100 percent with topnotchers.

In 2021, CDU also had a 100 percent passing percentage but they were not among the number one Top Performing Schools because the number of College’s graduates who took the board exams did not reach 50.

In 2021, five of its graduates were among the top 10 in the July licensure exams while three landed on the top 10 in the November exams.

“The achievement that we have is due to a collaborative effort between our faculty and our graduate themselves. They contributed and they had major roles in what we achieved this time,” Dean Merioles explained.

Aside from being ranked as one of the number one Top 10 Performing Schools in the November 2022 exams, CDU’s College of Nursing was also granted Level III status by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) last year. It was the first College of Nursing in Cebu and 2nd in Region VII to achieve this.

“When you get graduates from Cebu Doctors’ University, the competence as general nurse practitioners is clearly established. They were able to establish these competencies in a progressive manner,” Dean Merioles explained.

To ensure this, the University places much emphasis on faculty development so there are continuous training and seminars for the teaching staff, he added.

He also noted that the College of Nursing is ‘very well supported in technical aspects’ through the exclusive affiliation with the Cebu Doctors University Hospital, allowing the students to experience varied cases.

CDU nursing graduates have both the competence and the values that pertains to attributes of ‘Care and Care,’ Dean Merioles pointed out.

From day one of the nursing students’ integration in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, CDU imbues in its students the concept of care and care through a wholistic approach, he said. This approach includes the biological, social, psychological and spiritual aspects to achieve the goal of caring professional nurses.#
