CEL LAUNCHES SEASON 4 WITH IMPRESSIVE ESPORTS MATCHES

The two-day grand opening of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Esports League (CEL) Season 4 kicked off with strong performances from teams competing in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and Valorant tournaments.


Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Edward Hayco graced the opening ceremony and administered the oath-taking of the athletes.


Day one of the opening featured MLBB matches on February 21, 2026. Meanwhile, fans witnessed epic Valorant showdowns on February 22.


MLBB MATCHES


The MLBB tournament began with three matches in the inaugural CEL Women’s Division.


Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) overpowered the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu, 2-0, in their two-game series to open the MLBB Women’s Division.


Genzelle Gevana led CIT-U with seven kills, one death, and 15 assists in the series.


In the second match of the Women’s MLBB division, the University of Cebu (UC) and Cebu Eastern College (CEC) ended their battle in a draw.


The showdown between the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) and Benedicto College (BC) closed out the Women’s Division matches.


Julie Ann Sanchez spearheaded UCLM in their 2-0 victory over BC. She recorded nine kills and 10 assists and remained deathless throughout the series.


The Men’s MLBB division started with the debut match of Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) in the CEL.


However, their season opener was spoiled after they lost 2-0 to the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).


Harold Perez led USJ-R with nine kills and 19 assists and was deathless in the series.


UC defeated BC in the second match, led by John Dave Retuya, who tallied six kills, three deaths, and 31 assists.


The CIT-U Men’s MLBB team blanked UP Cebu, 2-0, in the third match. Joachim Andrei Tango-an led CIT-U with 12 kills, one death, and eight assists.


Day one concluded with a match between rival teams University of San Carlos (USC) and UCLM.


USC emerged victorious, 2-1, in a match that went to three games. Jestine John Miano powered USC’s win with 16 kills, seven deaths, and 24 assists.


VALORANT MATCHES


The USC Women’s Valorant team overcame USJ-R in the Women’s Valorant opening match.


Anya Amanda Sungahid led the charge for USC in their 13-5 victory with 23 kills, 19 deaths, 16 assists, and an Average Combat Score (ACS) of 259.


CDU and UC faced off in the second match, which went into double overtime. CDU secured the 15-13 win, led by Brianna Daniela Reyes, who recorded 23 kills, 19 deaths, 16 assists, and a 259 ACS.


In the Men’s Valorant division, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) bested CEC, 2-0, in their two-game series (13-1 in Game 1 and 13-6 in Game 2).


CIT-U dominated USC in the second match with a lopsided 2-0 victory (13-8 in Game 1 and 13-2 in Game 2).


The next set of matches in CEL Season 4 will be held on February 28 for MLBB and March 1 for Valorant.
