The Cebu Orthopaedic Institute (COI) will celebrate its 26th anniversary with another edition of its highly popular “COI Run,” scheduled for June 15, 2025, at Pescadores Road in Cebu Business Park.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, which featured both a run and a bike ride, the COI and partner organizer Coco Running aim to duplicate that success—this time focusing exclusively on a footrace.
To make the event more exciting and challenging, COI is introducing a 21-kilometer (KM) half marathon. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, runners may opt for 12K, 6K, or 3K categories.
With its goal of providing world-class orthopaedic care, COI sees this run as more than just a celebration—it’s a platform to advance multiple advocacies.
“The fun run was organized as a way to commemorate this event, and at the same time promote health, physical fitness and environmental awareness, all of which are ideals that COI strives to embody,” said Dr. Hester Renel Lim Palma, an orthopaedic surgeon of COI.
During last year’s silver anniversary, the event drew over 1,000 participants. This time, the organizers are targeting 1,500 to 2,000 runners.

“We recognize that physical fitness can be achieved in several ways. Running is not only accessible to all individuals of various ages and backgrounds, but it is also a cost-efficient and environmentally-friendly method to improve your overall health and well-being,” added Dr. Palma.
Running for a Cause
Adding a deeper purpose to the event, proceeds will be donated to the Missionaries of the Poor, benefiting children with physical and mental disabilities. Other portions of the proceeds will go to various medical organizations to support COI’s broader mission of promoting community health and wellness.
“Given the success of last year's event and an increase in the demand for another fun run this year, we are expecting close to 2000 participants,” added Palma.

Race Inclusions and Categories
To ensure a quality race experience, participants will receive a race shirt, bib, timing chip, drawstring bag, post-race meal, and a raffle stub. Finishers of the 21K category will also receive a finisher’s shirt.
Adding to the race day excitement, there will be sponsor booths and raffle prizes for everyone to enjoy.
Route and Safety
Veteran race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running shared that the official route will traverse Cebu City’s northern and southern thoroughfares. Safety is a priority, with route marshals, traffic enforcers, medical teams, and hazard cones deployed throughout the course.
To honor participants of all ages, the 21K race will also recognize top-performing runners across different age groups, including those in the 70-and-above category.
