Two days. One mission. SM Seaside City Cebu unites communities for World Bicycle Day and World Oceans Day.

This June, SM Seaside City Cebu once again proved that meaningful change begins with the community. In celebration of World Bicycle Day and World Oceans Day, the mall brought together passionate individuals and organizations for two back-to-back events that echoed a powerful message — that caring for the Earth starts with each of us.

SM Seaside City Cebu held its celebration for World Bicycle Day on June 6, 2025, followed by World Oceans Day on June 7, 2025. With the two globally recognized observances falling just days apart, it was only fitting for the mall to host both events consecutively over the weekend.

Pedal Power, a vibrant cycling event that championed sustainability, health, and eco-friendly transport was ignited by SM Seaside City Cebu. Cyclists of all ages gathered to participate in group rides at the SM Seaside Complex on June 6, featuring a wide, circular ground that’s ideal for cycling. Riders completed five laps of a 1-kilometer loop, covering a full 5 kilometers. The event formed part of a nationwide initiative led by SM Cares, celebrating World Bicycle Day in over 20 SM malls across the country.

This celebration encouraged the community to embrace biking not just as a form of recreation, but as a real step toward climate action. By reducing reliance on motor vehicles, cycling helps cut down greenhouse gas emissions and lessens traffic congestion — making cities cleaner, quieter, and more livable. SM Seaside, a recognized bike-friendly mall, continues to invest in rider-friendly infrastructure like dedicated bike lanes, secured parking areas, and supportive amenities — all in support of cleaner, more sustainable mobility.

The following day, SM Seaside City Cebu extended its advocacy from the streets to the shore. In honor of World Oceans Day, the mall spearheaded a Coastal Cleanup Drive at Kinalumsan River, Barangay Mambaling in Cebu City, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). The initiative brought together 406 volunteers, including SM employees, personnel, security staff, and affiliates.

The cleanup yielded 165 sacks of collected waste, weighing a total of 817.75 kilograms. Among the most commonly gathered items were food packaging, single-use plastics, styrofoam, and various unusual debris such as an air conditioning unit case and even a motorcycle helmet.

With the theme "Let’s unite towards an SM Waste-Free Future," the initiative highlighted the urgent need to reduce ocean pollution, protect marine ecosystems, and strengthen the culture of environmental responsibility within the community.

These efforts form part of a broader movement by SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls. Through SM Cares’ Environmental Programs, SM Supermalls continuously champion sustainable practices, community engagement, and climate resilience — empowering Filipinos to take action for a better, greener world.

Every pedal pushed and every piece of trash collected marks a step forward in building a future where sustainability is a shared responsibility.
