PAGHIMUGSO 2025: NU Cebu Marks a Historic Milestone with Grand Launch at SM

Cebu City, Philippines — NU Cebu, the 13th campus of National University, Philippines, officially marked its arrival in the Queen City of the South with a spectacular grand launch event, PAGHIMUGSO 2025, held on 14 June 2025 at the vibrant North Wing of SM City Cebu.

The celebration brought together a powerhouse of champions, leaders, and future trailblazers on a momentous occasion that signaled a new era for the education sector in Central Visayas.

The event was a spectacular showcase of NU's spirit and excellence, headlined by two rousing performances from the UAAP Cheerdance Champions - the unbeatable NU PEP Squad, whose energy electrified the crowd and set the tone for the day.

Joining them were NU's top volleyball and basketball alumni star athletes, who proudly represented the university's legacy of excellence in sports and academics through their testimonials.

Adding prestige to the occasion was the presence of executives from the National University, Philippines, led by President & CEO Dr. Renato Carlos H. Ermita, Jr., who all flew in to personally witness and celebrate this historic expansion. Leaders from the local government units (LGUs) of Cebu also graced the event, with Mayor-Elect Engr. Nestor Archival underscoring the strong partnership between NU Cebu and the local community.

Hundreds of students, parents, and families gathered to be part of the celebration, many of whom are now proud members of the pioneering batch of NU Cebu. The atmosphere was filled with excitement -- as there were 13 lucky Q&A winners from the new students - as well as pride, and hope as the university unveiled its vision for the future of education in the region.

"PAGHIMUGSO," a Visayan word meaning "birth" or "emergence," perfectly captured the essence of the launch — the beginning of a new chapter not just for NU, but for Cebu's academic landscape.
