RAFI GETS BOOST IN TYPHOON RELIEF DRIVE WITH DONATION FROM YIELD GUILD GAMES

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) has received a donation from Yield Guild Games (YGG), strengthening its efforts to help provide immediate support and relief to communities affected by super typhoon Odette.

YGG, a play-to-earn gaming guild online, donated P4.9 million to RAFI which has been spearheading its own humanitarian relief operations in response to the massive destruction left in the wake of Typhoon Odette.

“In times of calamity, YGG can uniquely leverage its position within the global crypto community. With a few tweets and Telegram messages, we were able to raise substantial donations from all corners of the crypto world in just a few days,” said Luis Buenaventura, YGG Country Manager in the Philippines.

He shared that although the metaverse is borderless and international, the platform can also be used to help mitigate and solve problems that are local and tangible.

The metaverse is a virtual-reality space that lets users interact with computer-generated environment.

“We are honored to be working with RAFI to deploy these funds to the areas that need them most,” Buenaventura added.

On top of its relief response, RAFI has also activated its emergency operations center, through its Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Response team, to mobilize and provide immediate support and relief towards affected communities.

Currently, RAFI has provided a large area in the Visayas with basic needs and essential goods in the wake of super typhoon Odette.

As of January 5, 2022, the foundation has already distributed more than 50,000 relief packs to several LGUs in the provinces of Cebu and Bohol.

Other communities that were affected, including those in Negros and Southern Leyte, are also set to receive their relief packs.

With the donation from YGG, RAFI hopes to extend its relief operations to more areas that were affected to serve the community and elevate the lives of those that were affected by the super typhoon.

“Through donors like YGG, we at RAFI continue to manifest our ability to rise and get through challenges in order to serve the community and elevate the lives of those that were affected,” said Riella Guioguio, RAFI Chief Operating Officer.

RAFI continues to coordinate with local government units, government agencies, and other private organizations to provide interventions for those who were affected by the typhoon.
