To restore what was lost to the seais like dreaming the impossible dream. This aspiration has guided the remarkable journey of Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown as it embarks on a pioneering environmental initiative aimed at rehabilitating the reefs of Mactan Newtown Beach.
At the heart of this journey lies a simple yet profound belief: when we come together with a shared vision, even the impossible becomes achievable. Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown’s team, grounded in the values of the Circle of Happiness, continues to embody this belief in every aspect of their work. The Circle of Happiness, taught to every Savoy employee, emphasizes kindness, responsibility, and environmental stewardship—values that have not only made the team better people but also attracted like-minded partners who share their passion for making a positive impact.

Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown has long been a champion of environmental causes, actively participating in various sustainability efforts set forth by Megaworld Hotels and Resortsand its local township, The Mactan Newtown, including regular coastal cleanups. While some of these efforts have received recognition, it was through a meaningful collaboration with Feel Deep, the hotel’s watersport activities supplier at Mactan Newtown Beach, that a new opportunity for environmental advocacy emerged.
It all started with a simple coffee meeting where the idea to teach Savoy employees how to dive was proposed. This initiative quickly led to the discovery of the immense devastation caused by Typhoon Odette in 2021, which severely damaged the reefs of Mactan. From this discovery, the "Adopt-a-Reef" campaign was born, marking the beginning of a united mission to restore the reef and preserve Mactan’s vibrant marine life.

The "Adopt-a-Reef" campaign quickly gathered a diverse group of supporters and volunteers, including key partners such as Feel Deep, the Philippine Coastguard, the Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary, the Eagles Metro Cebu Chapter, and independent volunteers, including Architect Jessryn Lim, who had previously launched similar efforts in Camotes. Together, they rallied behind a singular purpose: to rehabilitate Mactan’s underwater ecosystem and breathe life back into the damaged reefs.
In November 2024, Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown officially launched this initiative, focusing on reef rehabilitation using innovative and sustainable methods. By utilizing coral fragments and repurposed materials such as empty wine bottles, the team created a Sampaguita-shaped reef structure, which was installed underwater to serve as a sanctuary for various marine species.

In the spirit of the timeless message of "The Impossible Dream," Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown’s "Adopt-a-Reef" campaign dares to fight for a future where marine life thrives once again. This initiative demonstrates that, when hearts and hands unite, even the most ambitious goals like restoring what was once thought lost can become a reality.
Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown is proud to lead this transformative project and hopes to inspire other organizations and individuals to take action in preserving our planet’s precious marine ecosystems for generations to come.
