In response to the devastating fire that swept through Sitio Puntod, Barangay Mambaling in Cebu City on March 2, 2025, SM Foundation and SM Seaside City Cebu swiftly mobilized their Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) on March 6, 2025, to provide immediate relief to affected families at the evacuation center in Alaska, Mambaling. The relief initiative aligns with the Cebu City government’s call for assistance to displaced residents.

SM employee-volunteers took the lead in distributing Kalinga Packs to around 180 affected families, ensuring timely and contamination-free delivery of essential food and water supplies to fire victims. Each Kalinga Pack included bottled mineral water, rice, ready-to-eat meals, and instant noodles, helping families sustain their basic needs during this difficult time.

The massive fire in Sitio Puntod resulted in the loss of numerous homes, leaving families with little to no belongings. Through Operation Tulong Express, SM Seaside City Cebu remains steadfast in its commitment to serving communities in times of crisis.

The Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) program is a social good initiative spearheaded by SM Foundation, in collaboration with SM Supermalls and SM Markets, designed to provide immediate disaster relief and assistance to communities affected by calamities.

As part of SM’s corporate social responsibility, the program continuously supports affected families by ensuring they receive aid as quickly as possible. The timely response to the Sitio Puntod fire reflects SM’s dedication to being a partner in rebuilding lives and fostering resilience in communities.
