Female runners from SN Law Firm, a women-run firm led by Atty. Barbie Samson-Sesante, suited up their fitness gear and was among the 9,500 sea of runners in the SM2SM Run on Sunday morning, March 5, at the SM Seaside grounds.
The SN Law Firm runners breached a milestone with their first 12-kilometer run.
“We only started training for longer distance like the 12-kilometer run just this year. Previously we ran only shorter distances like 3K to 5K,” said Atty. Samson-Sesante, the wife of the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters head coach Atty. Kenneth Kernn Atilano Sesante.
SN Law Firm runners had to train twice a week for their first long-distance event.
“We're mostly glued in our seats when we work and joining running events was initially just a strategy to keep everyone on their feet to go out and bond. I was surprised we all finished! And one of the most significant advantages of any out-of-office group activity is that it boosts morale among your workforce. We plan to do it again!” said Samson-Sesante.
After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions, the SM2SM Run made a grand return for its 11th year. Runners from Visayas, Mindanao and even from Luzon came to join the race.
This year, the highlight for the raffle draw was the brand new Suzuki S-Presso which was on by the lucky runner: Christy Zusette Bejona, 32, from Dalaguete, Cebu.
“Nakadaug na gyud in a lifetime” (I finally won something after a lifetime), said Bejona, who run the 12K category.
Aside from the car, P650,000 worth of cash prizes, plus 11 Smart TV’s, 11 smartphones, 11 branded eyewear from Vision Express, 11 PHP5,000 worth of SM Gift certificates were given away during the awarding ceremony at the Mountain Wing Atrium.
“We missed you in the last two years. Our last run was in February 2020, and I hope you all enjoyed the SM2SM Run this year. We have over 50 raffle prizes, and we hope to give even more and bigger prizes in March next year. Cheers to SM2SM Run!”, said Marissa Fernan, vice president of SM Prime Holdings, Inc.
The run featured 4K, 8K, 12K, and 21K categories. In addition to the race categories, SM added a special category for persons with disabilities (PWD). The PWD category also had its own set of winners and prizes.
SM Supermalls tapped the Philippine Red Cross, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF), Radio Emergency Assistance Volunteer Organization (REAVO), Perpetual Succour Hospital, Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) to respond to the medical needs of the runners in case of emergency.
The SM2SM Run 11 is for the benefit of the Cebu Newspaper Workers Foundation, Inc.
