28TH FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL BRINGS ACCLAIMED FRENCH FEATURES FOR FREE SCREENINGS AT SM CINEMA

Film enthusiasts and culture lovers can max out their appreciation for world-class cinema as the 28th French Film Festival officially opened on May 29, 2026 at SM City Cebu, welcoming members of the media, guests, and partners for an evening marked by meaningful exchanges, shared experiences, and a deeper appreciation for French filmmaking.
The opening night was hosted by The Embassy of France to the Philippines and in Micronesia, in cooperation with SM Supermalls, the Alliance française de Cebu, and QCinema International Film Festival. Present during the opening night were Marie Fontanel, Ambassador of France to the Philippines; Nicolas Facino, Executive Director of Alliance Française de Cebu; Nestor Archival, Cebu City Mayor; and Marissa Fernan, Vice President of SM Prime Holdings. The evening featured the screening of Les Promesses (Promises) by French director Thomas Kruithof, setting the tone for a weekend of compelling and thought-provoking films.
Running from May 29 to 31, 2026 at SM City Cebu, the festival offers Cebuano audiences a curated lineup of contemporary French films spanning drama, romance, and socially relevant narratives. All screenings are open to the public for free, giving moviegoers a rare opportunity to experience celebrated international cinema on the big screen.
The 28th French Film Festival continues to strengthen cultural exchange between France and the Philippines through film, fostering connections through stories that transcend language and borders.
Included in this year’s lineup are Les Promesses (Promises), Maya, Donne-moi un titre (Maya, Give Me A Title), Chronique d’Une liaison passagère (Diary of a Fleeting Affair), La Fracture (The Divide), La Petite Dernière (The Little Sister), and Sur les chemins noirs (On the Wandering Path). Screenings are scheduled throughout the three-day festival, with seating on a first come, first served basis.
